Tree Removal and Tree Service in Lake Charles
Hurricane Laura came ashore near Cameron on August 27, 2020 as a Category 4 storm and drove its eyewall straight over Lake Charles. Six weeks later Hurricane Delta hit the same area. Between them they snapped pines across Calcasieu Parish, stripped the old live oaks of the historic district and left trees lodged in roofs for weeks.

Two hurricanes in six weeks
Laura's winds peaked near 150 miles an hour at landfall and were still destructive when the eye crossed Lake Charles. Aerial footage after the storm showed fallen trees across every neighborhood. Pines snapped mid-trunk, water oaks uprooted, and live oaks in the Charpentier Historic District lost most of their leaves and many limbs.
A month later, crews were still clearing debris, and some residents were living in homes with trees still inside them. Then Delta made landfall on October 9 a few miles away and brought down trees that Laura had weakened.
The city launched a replanting initiative called ReTreeLC, and parks that lost century-old trees were replanted with live oaks and bald cypress.

Licensing and storm recovery
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry licenses arborists and tree trimmers through a state exam and requires that licensed businesses carry insurance. The rule protects homeowners from unqualified crews, a real problem after hurricanes when demand far outstrips supply.
City-parish debris pickup after Laura and Delta followed the usual FEMA-supported pattern: residents placed vegetative debris at the curb, separate from construction debris, and contractors hauled it in passes over several months.

Lake Charles tree questions
Do I need a city permit to remove a tree in Lake Charles?
Private yard trees are generally not regulated, but trees in the city right-of-way are city trees. The person doing the work needs a state license.
Can a stripped live oak recover?
Usually. Live oaks often leaf out again within a season. Remove broken limbs cleanly and give it time.
What is ReTreeLC?
A citywide replanting initiative launched after the 2020 hurricanes to restore the canopy.
Should I replace pines near my house?
Many owners chose live oaks or cypress instead, placed farther from the house.
